JOB TITLE: Finance & Accounting Executive 

Location: Lincoln, NE 
Practice: Nebraska Hematology Oncology                                                                     Reports To: Chief Executive Officer 
Supervises: Director of Patient Financial Services, Accountant / Analyst, Facilities Manager; indirect supervision of all members of the Finance Department 
Overtime Status: Exempt 

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Finance & Accounting Executive is responsible for directing the organization’s financial planning and accounting practices while establishing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, and internal controls. This role manages key relationships with lending institutions, pay sources, and other financial entities and provides critical financial insights to physician leadership and executive management. The Finance & Accounting Executive also oversees budget development, financial reporting, audits, insurance coverage, and the optimization of revenue cycle functions to ensure the long-term financial health of the organization. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: 

  • Interacts with physician and administrative leadership in developing the strategic plan and financial planning component. 

  • Oversees and directs budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, financial reporting, cash management, long-range forecasting, and insurance activities. 

  • Evaluates the organization's financial position and issues periodic reports on financial stability, liquidity, and growth. 

  • Develops and enforces financial policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and fiscal responsibility. 

  • Assures implementation of internal controls and compliance with GAAP and best practices in healthcare finance. 

  • Supervises cost analysis and makes rate recommendations to ensure appropriate income and cash flow. 

  • Analyzes financial data to identify trends, operational opportunities, and financial risks. 

  • Prepares the annual operating and affiliated entity budgets and monitors financial performance against them. 

  • Oversees and ensures timely submission of tax filings and other regulatory financial reports. 

  • Prepares and presents financial and statistical reports to the CEO, Board of Directors, Senior Management Team, and external stakeholders, with actionable recommendations. 

  • Manages annual insurance renewals, including malpractice, general liability, property, and directors and officers coverage. 

  • Coordinates with other departments to align fiscal planning with organizational strategy and operational needs. 

  • Implements and maintains internal audit procedures to safeguard assets and maintain data integrity. 

  • Oversees capital projects to ensure they are consistent with long-term financial strategies. 

  • Optimizes revenue cycle processes to improve financial performance and efficiency. 

  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates finance department personnel to ensure a high-performing team. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: 

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance required. 

  • CPA required. 

  • 8–10 years of experience in financial/accounting management. 

  • Experience in healthcare financial management strongly preferred. 

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: 

Knowledge: 

  • Expertise in financial management, including GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting principles. 

  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost analysis, and financial statement preparation in an outpatient healthcare setting. 

  • Understanding of healthcare billing, coding, and reimbursement regulations. 

  • Familiarity with the competitive managed care environment and integrated healthcare delivery models. 

  • Knowledge of government fiscal regulations and healthcare reporting standards. 

Skills:

  • Ability to assess operational efficiency in relation to financial goals and objectives. 

  • Effective relationship-building with patients, staff, providers, and external stakeholders.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and healthcare financial software systems.

Standard office equipment including computers, printers, telephones, copiers, calculators, and fax machines. 

Work Environment: 

Work is performed in a well-lit office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required based on organizational needs. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform tasks typically associated with executive financial management roles. Daily activity involves 90% sitting and 10% standing or walking. The role may involve high-stress interactions and managing tight deadlines across departments.
