JOB TITLE: Radiation Oncology Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Radiation Oncology Manager provides operational and administrative leadership for Radiation Oncology services, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. This role oversees daily operations, staff performance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team aligned with clinic goals and values.

REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Staff Management

· Provides direct leadership and supervision to Dosimetrists, Radiation Therapists, and Radiation Oncology support staff.

· Conducts annual performance evaluations, ongoing development & coaching, and corrective action in accordance with HR policies.

· Maintain effective communication amongst the team, facilitate cooperation, and encourage team building.

· Cultivate professional working relationships amongst the team and other clinic departments.

· Assesses staff competencies and coordinates cross-training to support coverage and specialized services.

· Approves time-off requests and ensures accurate completion of timecards and payroll documentation.

· Conduct meetings as required and assign duties as needed.

Operations & Workflow

· Coordinates daily staffing assignments and schedules to ensure appropriate coverage for patient care and front-office operations.

· Monitors workload distribution and resource utilization to optimize efficiency.

· Oversees opening and closing procedures and ensures reception and patient coordination functions are adequately staffed.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

· Ensures departmental operations comply with clinic policies, accreditation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

· Oversees quality assurance activities and participates in performance improvement initiatives.

· Maintains and updates departmental policies and procedures.

Patient Experience

· Ensures staff are trained to support patients with ambulatory or special needs.

· Promotes a patient-centered environment that supports safety, dignity, and satisfaction.

· Serves as a point of escalation for patient or operational concerns.

PERFORMANCE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree in scientific, healthcare, administration or related field; or equivalent combination of education/experience combined (one year of experience equals one year of education).

· Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a healthcare or medical office setting.

· Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in Radiation Oncology or Oncology services.

· Knowledge of radiation safety principles and oncology workflows.

· Prior management or departmental leadership experience.

CERTIFICATION / LICENSE: Professional licensure such as CMD, RTT, RN, or LPN required.

ALTERNATIVE to MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates holding current certification or licensure as a Radiation Physicist, Certified Medical Dosimetrist, Radiation Therapist, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse may be considered in lieu of traditional management experience.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Work is performed in the reception and business office areas. It involves frequent contact with patients. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Work may require multiple assignments that require attention to detail. Work may require sitting and standing for long periods of time; also stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Work requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard proficiently. Close visual acuity is needed to view computer screens, paperwork, and forms. Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed. May require occasional presence in clinical treatment areas and adherence to radiation safety protocols.
